The Grand Theater, Groningen presenting contemporary theater, dance and youth theater performances and concerts. In addition to a stage for guest performances of groups from within and outside the Grand Theater is primarily a production company that annually around fifteen works ban. The Grand Theater is located in the building of the same name, former cinema which was built in 1929. The facade is still more or less intact and is one of the few examples of sleek Art Deco architecture in Groningen. He is also on the list of modern monuments. The movie was a family that has turned to 1977. After closure the building was empty for three years in May 1980 celebration was reopened. The theater was cracked as a response to the then cultural policy in the municipality of Groningen. There was an acute lack of play and rehearsal in the city. After a period of uncertainty about the future use of the building, the users managed to take it. The first years firmly fought cultural destination of the Grand was also becoming more politically acceptable. Already in the early eighties, the first theater to own and since 1985, the Grand Theater as a production funded by the Empire. Since then, the lower room (14 meters wide, 25 meters deep and 12 meters high) with its rough walls and flexible public establishment regularly used for special events location. It was in 1983 in the wake of the 2nd balcony of the former cinema hall built above. This room is smaller (12 m wide, 9 meters deep and 8 meters high) than the lower room but large enough to productions for small and medium-sized room to receive. This room also has good acoustics for concerts. The thorough renovation in 1995, a new floor on the roof of the theater building. Here are four offices, a canteen and a large rehearsal studio (13x10 meters) located. The historical atmosphere of the building is maintained as much as possible by reusing materials. Structural work in the theater about 18 people. The bar and the evening's easy to be run by volunteers.
